The Rose Guild

The Rose Guild is for dancers who want to grow in a positive, team-centered environment rooted in kindness, teamwork, and mutual respect. We believe in progress over perfection and we cheer each other on every step of the way.

Our competition dancers grow as people, performers, and friends. We believe in collaboration over competition, with continuous improvement as our shared goal. Winning is never our goal. If we win, it’s simply a happy accident.

Rosebuds

(K-2nd)

  • Our Rosebuds, affectionately known as ‘the buddies’ are our youngest members of The Rose Guild. Our focus for our buddies is ensuring that they build a great foundation in technique and get to experience the fun and develop friendships through competing together.

  • We’re thrilled to collaborate with our resident choreographer, Joey Vice—a professional dancer and innovative choreographer whose work continues to inspire dancers across the country. A former student of Cindy’s, Joey began his career as the Trickster in Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA at just 18, and now creates bold, emotionally charged choreography as a freelance artist based in Los Angeles.

All of our Rose Guild dancers will have the opportunity to learn from Joey, as he choreographs many of our routines each season and shares his creative process with our teams. His work celebrates individuality, storytelling, and the joy of movement—beautifully aligned with our core value of Progress Over Perfection. Whether your dancer performs one of his pieces or grows through his artistic influence, Joey’s presence brings something truly special to our community.

  • Our buddies usually dance one or two days a week, spending around 1.5–3 total hours in class. It’s a low-commitment way to dip into the world of competition while still leaving plenty of time for other activities and family life. Flexibility is one of our core values—we know life outside the Performing Arts Center matters too. There are no strict attendance rules here, and if there’s ever a conflict, we’re always happy to work with you. More than anything, we just want to see your dancer shine!

At CSPAC, all of our classes are 30 minutes long—with purpose. This format gives dancers the flexibility to personalize their training, match their schedule, and explore their own unique path. Many of our technique classes are offered as duos (two back-to-back sessions), allowing dancers to go deeper in one style or build a well-rounded week.

We keep competition requirements simple so dancers can design a program that works for them—while still building the strength, confidence, and artistry needed to thrive. That said, we highly recommend taking as much additional ballet and jazz as possible, as these techniques provide the foundation for nearly everything we do.

    Line Group Requirements:

All Line dancers take at least two ½ hour technique classes per week. Requirements vary slightly by style:

    • Ballet Line: one ½ hour of each duo ballet technique class

    • Contemporary Line: one ½ hour of each duo ballet technique class or one ½ hour of each duo jazz technique class

    • Hip Hop Line: one ½ hour jazz technique class + an additional ½ hour technique class

    • Jazz Line: one ½ hour of each duo jazz technique class

    • Tap Line: one ½ hour Tap technique class + an additional ½ hour technique class

    Travel:

Our buddies attend one regional competition each year, and we do our best to keep travel to a minimum. Most events are condensed into a single day, though final schedules are set by the competition organizers.

Competition days are some of the most fun and memorable moments of the season—a great way for Buddies to bond, cheer each other on, and build lasting friendships.

Our Buddies do not currently participate in nationals—but if there's enough interest, we're always open to re-evaluating! That said, nationals are never required for our dancers. At this stage, we’re all about building confidence, teamwork, and a love for performing—no pressure, just joyful growth.

We stay connected with families through texts, our Parent Portal, and weekly emails so you're always in the loop and never caught off guard!

  • Body positivity and acceptance are at the heart of everything we do.

Girls should wear a leotard and tights, and boys should wear black athletic pants with a comfortable shirt. Dancers are welcome to wear additional layers as long as they can move freely—comfort and confidence are what matter most.

We ask that all competition dancers wear the appropriate dance shoes for their classes.

  • As part of our buddies program, each dancer is paired with an older, more experienced "Big Bud" who serves as a mentor and cheerleader throughout the season. It’s a special friendship that helps our Buddies feel supported, connected, and confident—both on and off the stage. From high-fives at rehearsals to sweet moments backstage, the Big Bud, Little Bud bond is one of the most heartwarming parts of our dance family.

  • Absolutely—if they’re curious, excited, or just love to move, they’re ready to give it a try! We welcome dancers of all experience levels and believe confidence grows with support, not pressure. Our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

  • You won’t find any pyramids or depth charts in our competition groups. Every child is valued and every dancer has a chance to shine. Our routines include line changes and thoughtful staging to highlight each performer’s growth and individuality. We believe in collaboration over competition, and that progressing as performers is far more meaningful than collecting trophies.

  • Our Magnolias have a range of involvement depending on their goals and group participation. Some dancers attend 1–2 days per week for about 1.5–3 total hours—a balanced way to stay active in dance while still enjoying other interests. Dancers participating in Large and Small Group routines typically spend more time in the studio as they take on additional technique classes and rehearsals. This is a natural time for growth, and many dancers begin to deepen their commitment and training around this age. No matter the path, we remain flexible and supportive. If conflicts ever arise, we’re always happy to work with you—because above all, we want your dancer to feel confident, successful, and seen.

Magnolias offer backstage support, encouragement during rehearsals, and lots of high-fives. The mentorship program helps foster community, empathy, and confidence on both sides.

  • If they’re passionate about dance and open to learning, the answer is yes! Whether they’re continuing from a previous level or new to competitive dance, we welcome all experience levels. They are leaders in our studio, mentors to younger dancers, and role models who embody teamwork, dedication, and grace.

Check out the FAQ below for other common questions! If you have any other questions for us, we’d love to hear from you here!

 FAQs

  • Yes—but not in the way you might expect!
Each year, we hold mock auditions as part of our educational experience. These give dancers the opportunity to practice audition etiquette, build confidence, and grow as performers. However, auditions do not determine placement or whether a dancer can join a group. You won’t find a pyramid or a depth chart here. We also do not charge any additional fees for this educational experience.

At CSPAC, we believe in growth over gatekeeping. Our goal is to help every dancer develop at their own pace, in an environment that supports learning and self-expression. If there’s a group your dancer is passionate about joining, we’ll work with them to get there—no pressure, no stress, just encouragement and support.

  • We don’t offer competition solos at CSPAC, but all seniors are invited to perform a senior solo in our annual spring recital—a heartfelt tradition that honors their unique journey and celebrates their time with us. Seniors also have opportunities to perform their solos at non-competition events throughout the year, giving them more chances to share their artistry and gain valuable performance experience.

  • Our Rose Guild members perform in our annual spring recital with their competition dances—no recital fees required! We also choreograph one special routine per subject in their technique classes just for recital season, giving everyone an additional chance to shine on stage in a fun, celebratory atmosphere.

We believe performance is a vital part of a well-rounded performing arts education, so we make sure our Rose Guild members have plenty of opportunities to perform beyond the competition stage. These experiences help build confidence, versatility, and the joy that comes from sharing their artistry with a wider audience.

  • The short answer: no!

We're a values-based studio, and one of our core values is flexibility and personalization. While we highly encourage our dancers to attend as many technique classes and rehearsals as they can, we also recognize that life outside the Performing Arts Center matters too. That’s why we do not have any strict attendance rules.

That said, competition groups are a team-based commitment, so we do ask that families communicate any known conflicts with classes, rehearsals, or performances in advance. This helps us plan accordingly and ensures each group feels confident, prepared, and supported.

“Training with Cindy Straub gave me the foundation, knowledge, confidence, and versatility that I needed to thrive in college and beyond! Both on stage and off, I apply the things I’ve learned here every day as a performer. From tap dancing to maintaining a healthy performing lifestyle, Cindy builds smart, talented, confident young professionals. Thanks to this amazing training, I have just signed my second ever professional summer stock contract! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support I received from Cindy Straub.”
